Review – Hard Rock Hotel in Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore

This is the first time we booked a room in Hard Rock chain of hotels. I am very pleased with my choice because I got a very good deal through I got the rate for half the price during summer season.  We booked stayed here for 2 nights and 3 days last July 4-6, 2012.

Here are my findings which I have broken down in several categories:

It was nighttime when we arrived at the hotel. It was a bit dark like a club style and there was a band performing so shouting was the method of communicating with the staff at the reception desk. I could barely hear her. I had to ask her to repeat twice or thrice what she just said. The band’s audio was so loud, really loud!

The interior is fit for a rock and roll themed hotel – dark, with plenty of memorabilia display, crystal chandeliers (even inside the elevator’s wall!) and urban and modern furniture.

Lighting is okay and you can feel like you are in a club or disco bar.

Concierge/Reception area

We checked in around 2145 hrs. My daughter and I were the only ones checking in so the attention was on us. Not bad when you’re super tired, drowsy and disoriented from a long, bumpy flight. There is a nearby Memorabilia store for souvenirs.

We were greeted by the busboys with courtesy the moment we alighted the taxi. Our bags were taken by the busboy inside the hotel and that was appreciated. The lady who checked us in was very cordial, same with the gentleman who took our bags for us.

Floor hallway

Ample lighting but not as bright as I would prefer on hotels. Bearing in mind that the theme is rock/glam-rock kind of feel so it suits the motif.

Carpeted flooring all throughout the hallway

This is the best bedding I have ever slept on. It was better than the luxurious Marriott Hotel in Singapore! The foam is just perfect. The pillows are down so I had a good night sleep. It was clean and well kept. The headboard was the wood paneling on the wall, which was okay. I love the pull out bed though. It is a safety buffer for me because my daughter punches and kicks when she is asleep so I can bunk on the pull out bed if she starts getting “violent” while asleep.

There is a long table, which also act as a study and vanity table. The only problem I had was the lack of chair to use when I had to use the laptop or do my make-up. There is a yellow odd-shaped stool inside the bathroom that I used as a stool. There is a long window bedding or seating area that can double as another bed for younger folks or guest.

There is a pressing table, flat iron, dual opening closet (which also opens from the bathroom) and a mini-safe

Mini bar

It is well stocked with 5 complimentary water from RWS and the rest of other juices and soda for a fee. There is also a complimentary coffee, sugar, tea and creamer for the guest. There are enough drinking glasses (2 from the mini-bar and 2 from the bathroom) to use and 2 drinking cups, a percolator and an ice bucket. The hotel does give free ice cubes in the ice room. There is one in our floor. I am not sure if there is ice room on every floor though.

I find the washing area with the vanity a bit tight. I had to bump my daughter when she was standing next to me while I brush my teeth and she, while brushing her hair. The mirror was a bit small.

I love the separate shower and toilet though. My only complaint is the lack of proper hanging place for our clothes inside the shower area where we are taking the bath. I had to leave the towel just outside. Also, both the separate enclosures have glass doors. But the water is trickling outside too and the bathroom floor closer to the shower area gets wet a lot.

Entry hallway in the room

This is a huge entry hallway for a bedroom. I like that we can leave our bags there without tripping because there are actually enough space around.

Outside the hotel:

The façade is nice with the big logo of Hard Rock. You cannot miss it and it’s a nice photo op as well as there is a big guitar in the middle just few meters away from the drop-off point for guests that leads to the hotel.

Back of the hotel

The gigantic pool with a simulated beach shore is located at the back of the hotel. You’re lucky if your room is facing the pool side. Ours was facing the front so we didn’t have a good view. The pool has a nice sunken bar and there is enough space for everyone to swim around as it is a huge pool and also, there are enough lounging area to wait for your kids or family members while they enjoy a good dip in the pool.

What I like:
The location is probably one of the selling point of this property.  It is very near the Universal Studios which was why I booked this hotel in the first place.  It is tucked inside the Resorts World Sentosa compound so it is very quiet.
The personalized greeting on the TV screen in the room. I find that very cute and appealing.
The price was a good deal during the time of my booking. Normally, this hotel will fetch for US$290 ++ for a night. I got the hotel rate per night for only US$95++ per night. Now, that is a very good deal!
The staff were all friendly and accommodating.
The room is big and very clean.
The bed is comfortable.
There is a good wide selection in their breakfast buffet. I paid for SGD 39++ (approx US$30++) per person.
What I don’t like:
The very noisy lobby when the band played at night. It was loud. They don’t seem to have any audio control to lower the volume of their amplifiers and speakers. I find it really distracting.
The bathroom vanity area is a tight quarter.
Checking out can be chaotic. The concierge is rather small and manned by 2 staff at the time I checked out considering it is a big property with 364 rooms to boast.
SGD 432 (US$340) for 2 nights via
Room Type:
Double Deluxe
Nearby attractions:
Resorts World Sentosa
Universal Studios Singapore
Sentosa Resort
ViVoCity Shopping Mall
Adventure Cove Waterpark
Maritime Experiential Museum
My recommendation:
Yes. I recommend this fairly new hotel to families with older kids rather than those with younger kids simply because its ambience is not so kid-friendly. I think the band playing in the lobby is distracting and kids won’t enjoy that. They will find the large pool inviting though!
This hotel is great for couples and families with older kids. Business travelers who are seeking a short break from the hustle and bustle of the city life will find this hotel a bit noisy for their taste.
You can find more information about this hotel, location and other facilities and amenities, please check the official website. Hard Rock Hotel in Singapore is located at 8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island, Singapore.
If you wish to book this hotel, please check for low rates and really competitive prices (subject to availability and rates subject to change without prior notice).

This hotel review is my personal review. I have paid for this stay and in no way sponsored by the property nor I just love to book via because I always find a very competitive rate or great deals when compared to other booking sites.

Gardens By The Bay in Singapore

Gardens by the Bay in Singapore opened last 29 June 2012. My daughter and I were able to visit it last July 6, 2012 during our vacation in Singapore.

We both love nature and my daughter is a budding shutter bug. So, it was a good thing that we bought the SLR camera so she can take great photos of beautiful flowers and other plants in the conservatories.

Gardens by the Bay (GB) consists of 2 conservatories – The Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest. Both of these giant green houses are part of the attraction of GB. Another spectacular site to behold are the Supertree Groves. They are towering structures of metal and nature. They are vertical gardens which act as canopies to offer shade and wonderful sight both day and night. The GB is a big garden and park at the same time where other sections of the garden is open to the public for free.

I will break down the various areas we visited in GB and hopefully, you’ll find the place interesting and amazing as we captured the beautiful scenery and flora in the area.

The Gardens by the Bay is located near the Marina Bay Sands. So, you can also include a visit to the famous new iconic landmark in Singapore, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Casino and check out the Skypark and the famous infinity pool of Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

Universal Studios Singapore July 2012

Yes, finally! My daughter and I had an amazing time in Universal Studios Singapore last July 5, 2012. It was just a mere 10 minutes walk away from our hotel in the Resorts World Sentosa so going there was a breeze.

I paid S$74 for each of us for an adult one-day peak pass because our date of visit fell during the peak season. I bought it online few weeks in advance to ensure that our entrance was covered because you just don’t know if it would become too crowded.

We were there around 11:00 a.m. There was gray overcast but I didn’t anticipate heavy rain on that day. Good thing we bought rain coats so even if it was raining like cats and dogs, we managed to go around wearing our rain coats. The rain stopped around 1:00 p.m. so it was cool to roam around again and ride the other attractions.

There are 7 areas in Universal Studios Singapore namely:

  • Hollywood – near the entrance, has souvenir shops and other food outlets like the Mel’s Diner   and Hollywood China Bistro. We had lunch at the latter. It was quite pricey but it was delicious. Celebrity Cafe and Bakeshop is also in this place.
  • New York – you can find the Lights, Camera, Action attraction here. This is where I had a pose with Marilyn Monroe and watched the Sesame Street characters performed.
  • Sci-fi City – Transformers Ride and Battlestar Galactica Human vs. Cylon ride and the Accelerator are  in this area.
  • Ancient Egypt – The very scary Revenge of the Mummy ride is right here. Treasure Hunt is another slow ride which is okay for kids and even myself with hypertension.
  • Lost World – Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, Canopy Flyer, Dino-Soarin’ rides are right here. Water World is also found in this area.
  • Far, Far, Away – The very fun and exciting Shrek 4D ride is in this area. I had so much fun in this simulator ride. Magic Potion shop is also here which is a merchandise store. There are some food outlets here too.
  • Madagascar – The fun Madagascar: A Crate Adventure ride is found here. I love this ride so much although we all got wet because of Marty. No, I will not give any spoiler here 🙂 You have to go to Universal Studios and enjoy the ride!

I managed to take pictures with Marilyn Monroe and Betty Boop. I was looking for the other characters but didn’t catch them. Better luck next time!

The whole Universal Studios experience is so wonderful. My daughter  would like to go back and take her dad with her so she could try out the other rides we missed during our visit because of my condition. I wanted to take the rides but I was hyperventilating already just reading the description and looking at the other riders who got out of the rides. However, I know I missed so much on the other famous rides, I still look forward to go back and this time, with my hubby who is as adventurous as my princess.

I do recommend this place to everyone. It is a wholesome, family-oriented theme park in Singapore.

Back From Singapore

The Singapore vacation is over! I cannot believe it came and went so fast, right when we were having so much fun. I cannot believe I will say this but Singapore is starting to grow on me. I am not a big fan of Singapore and no offense meant. It is just that there are certain places in the world that I am more attracted to than this tiny Asian country. However, that changed on this recent trip. Singapore is simply amazing!

The city has changed a lot since we last visited the country last 2008. Now there are more attractions to visit like the Universal Studios Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa, The Flyer, Marina Bay Sands and the recently opened Gardens By The Bay. Back then, these were still being constructed and now that they are all finished, Singapore has become more interesting and a go-to place in Asia.

My daughter and I enjoyed the short vacation. It was refreshing and meeting with friends added more excitement and color to the vacation. Although the weather was not as cooperative as I would like it to be, we still had fun and enjoyed every minute of the stay in amazing Singapore. We will be back for sure!

Waiting For Our Summer Vacation

I normally don’t get that excited when I visit Asian countries because they are usually accessible anytime of the year. Also, Filipinos get visas on arrival in most Asian countries so my excitement is a bit in check. However, I can’t wait to go now because I want to enjoy my time with my teen daughter.

I’m really glad she wants to go on this trip. She’s excited about our hotel in Resorts World Sentosa and the rides in Universal Studios. It has been a while since we last went to Paris Disneyland so we both missed the thrills, shrills and fun times in the amusement park.

Rest and relaxation is the sole reason for our trip to Singapore. The weather will be very humid and hot so it’s not escaping Middle East’s heat but just to enjoy the brief leisure time we will have this July. Also, we can’t stay long there because my daughter’s cousin from the US will be visiting Dubai for a month too. We need to be back soon so we can welcome and tour him around the famous places in Dubai.

Few days to go and I’ll start packing 🙂

Summer Fun In Singapore

My daughter and I will have a bonding time in Singapore for 5 days from 4 to 8 of July. It is a full rest and relaxation trip so we won’t be having so many side trips. I planned this trip in lieu of the 40th birthday trip I had in mind. I think Tokyo will have to wait for another year again. I just don’t think we’re ready for Japan yet. So, I asked my daughter if she wants to visit Universal Studios instead in Singapore. She loved the idea so I booked our tickets and hotels already. No backing out now!

I booked 2 nights in Hard Rock Hotel in Resorts World Sentosa via It was a flash deal where rates are 50% off but non-refundable. I wanted the Festive Hotel but it was not available on the dates I prefer. Anyway, I think Hard Rock Hotel is okay because I read a lot of good reviews about it. The pool is great and my daughter is looking forward to splash around like a mermaid! I hope they upgrade us to a pool-view room. Crossing fingers! The hotel is walking distance to Universal Studios so we can visit the attraction on foot!

The other 2 nights are booked in Landmark Village Hotel in Victoria St. near Bugis. We will visit Bugis Junction and meet some friends as well. We don’t intend to visit other attractions because we just want to see Universal Studios and the budget is strictly allocated to the hotels, food, transportation and other expenses. No shopping and other sight-seeing this time. Well, let’s see if I can stick to the “without shopping” especially if the half of our stay in Singapore is near the shopping district. That will be a hard temptation to resist!

Singapore – The Lion City

Posted in Asia, country, places, places to see, Singapore, tips, travel, travel tips
on February 4, 2012

I have been to this small but nice country twice. The first one was in 2002 and the second was in 2008. I haven’t been back since then and I would certainly like to go back for a brief R & R with my family, when time permits.
The country is small and if you need to go around Singapore City, you only need to book a max of 5 days and 4 nights to see the whole place.
There are plenty of places to see there like the famous Sentosa Island and the cable ride at Vivo, Merlion Statue, Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari, the Botanical Garden, Esplanade, the recently opened Universal Studios (which was still under construction when my family and I visited Singapore last 2008), the Resort World (casino and a nice hotel), and the Marina Bay Sands with the infinity pool on top of the hotel, overlooking the city of Singapore. When you love shopping like I do, the best places to go to are Bugis and China Town. Orchard Road is for the high-end shoppers. I normally don’t buy antyhing there.
Food is cheap in Singapore and so are the hotel accommodation. The first time my husband and I went to Singapore, we stayed in Marriott Hotel which was centrally located at the corner of Orchard and Scotts Road. It is like a tall pagoda in the middle of a bustling city. I love that hotel. It is very beautiful and right beside the MRT station and walking distance to restaurants and malls. The second time we stayed at YMCA International Guest House at Bencoolen St. It is facing the Canning Park and a church is close by. It is close to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station and a walking distance to Orchard Road.
If you love to dine out and experience the various food of Singapore, go to Clark Quay for some nice dining experience. Eat by the river and enjoy the skyline of Singapore.
The weather is similar to the Philippines. It gets a bit humid and rainy at the same time. It is best to go there during November until February where the weather is still cool and plenty of events to celebrate like Deepavali, Hari Raya Puasa, Christmas, New Year, and the grand Chinese New Year.
We’re looking forward to visit the country again. We will explore the new attractions next time.
